Yesu wa Tongaren Latest News Today

Eliud Wekesa, popularly known as Yesu wa Tongaren, was summoned to the police station on Wednesday for questioning.

The Bungoma police chief, Francis Kooli, summoned him. Kooli contacted the leader of the New Jerusalem church to inquire about alleged harmful religious beliefs.

Wekesa was accompanied by other church members. The preacher stated that he has made no mistakes because his teachings are divine.

He slammed the Shakahola cultic doctrines, stating that if proved guilty, the preachers should face the law. This comes as President William Ruto establishes a judicial commission to investigate the Shakahola cult fatalities.

The panel has been charged with determining what caused the deaths of over in the church owned by controversial preacher Paul Mackenzie.

The Head of State announced in a gazette notice that Lady Justice Jessie Lessit, together with seven others, will chair the panel. The commission’s primary mandate is to investigate the killings, torture, and inhumane and degrading treatment of members of the Good News International Church. “The team will investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths and inhumane torture,” according to the gazette notification.

The commission will also look into the circumstances that contributed to the rise of that specific religious extremist institution, as well as other organizations that promote bad religion-based activities.
